No Two People Are The Same

As tax season begins, I want to remind everyone of something important: no two people are the same — and neither are tax returns.

It’s easy to assume that because your co-worker, friend, or even your brother works at the same place, has a spouse, and two kids just like you, that your refunds should be the same. That’s simply not true.

Here’s why:

• W-4 forms may be filled out differently

• A spouse may have additional income you don’t know about

• A child turning 17 can significantly impact a return

• And the list goes on and on

Finance is very personal. People rarely share all the details, so comparing your tax situation to others can be misleading and frustrating.

If you have questions or concerns about your return, the best thing you can do is contact a licensed tax preparer who can look at your specific situation.
